Inputs
Using this input, values between 0 and 1 or 0% and 100% can be input. Via this Position along the color gradient you can define the location on the gradient at which a color should be extracted. The position 0% lies at the left end of the gradient and 100% at the right end.

Interpolation
Details about using the color gradient can be found under Color Gradient in Nodes.
There is a difference between the calculated brightness of a color and the brightness that we perceive. For this reason, many recording and playback devices use gamma curves to, for example, ensure that a 50% gray actually looks as such on the monitor. In fact in doing so, brightness along a grayscale gradient is offset and brightness regions are compressed and expanded. This leads to a reduction of brightness information in particular in extremely black and white areas.
This is why Cinema 4D foregoes the use of the gamma profile with its ‘linear workflow’. All bright areas will be displayed according to their actual color value. This mode reflects the Linear mix mode for Gradient. If you want the brightness according to a gamma profile 2.1, set the mix mode to sRGB.
